Report an Incident or an Immediately Dangerous Situation

What happens after you report an incident or an immediately dangerous situation?
- When you report an incident or an immediately dangerous situation, you will be asked some questions about the work site (e.g. location of the work site, name of the employer, how many workers involved, and what is the dangerous situation or incident) to ensure the most accurate and relevant information is obtained.
- Once the information* has been collected and verified that the situation falls under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation or Code, it will be forwarded to a Regional Manager. The Regional Manager will then assign an Occupational Health and Safety Officer who will respond as soon as possible.
- All incidents and immediately dangerous situations will be given priority.
- The personal information you provide will be treated as confidential and will not be revealed to the work place.

File a Complaint/Report an Unsafe Work Condition

What happens after you file a complaint or report an unsafe work condition?

Your complaint will be reviewed to ensure the necessary information* has been provided, such as company name and work site location.

Your complaint will also be reviewed to ensure that it falls under the jurisdiction of the Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation or Code.

If the issue described does not fall within our jurisdiction, you will be notified through the contact information you have provided.

Once the complaint has been determined to fall under the jurisdiction of Occupational Health and Safety it will then be forwarded to a Regional Manager who will then assign an Occupational Health and Safety Officer.

The Officer will have a two-week time frame to respond.

Submit an Asbestos Project Notification
Alberta OHS legislation requires anyone beginning an asbestos project to notify Workplace Health and Safety at least 72 hours before workers may be exposed to airborne fibres. This includes set-up operations that may release asbestos fibres. A notifiable asbestos project involves the abatement of asbestos, the demolition or the renovation of a building or equipment containing asbestos.
To notify Workplace Health and Safety of an asbestos abatement project:

Apply for a Blaster's Permit
In Alberta, any worker who handles, prepares or fires an explosive must hold a valid permit issued by Alberta Employment and Immigration (E&I) or a valid inter-provincial permit acceptable to E&I.
A worker can qualify to apply for a blaster's permit by completing an E&I approved course OR having six months' experience and the employer's recommendation.
Qualified persons may apply for a blaster's permit by
