Office of Statistics and Information (OSI)

Programs and Services

Alberta's new Office of Statistics and Information (OSI) is responsible for consolidating official statistics and other key government data to support the efficient and strategic management and dissemination of information for policy and decision-making.  The development of the OSI was outlined as a priority for this ministry one year ago.

Since that time, we have been working closely with experts and stakeholders within government to develop a suite of official statistics and processes for managing and reporting data.  We are also striving to ensure that data can be shared efficiently and appropriately and is properly protected and secure.

Data inform decisions

Ready access to high-quality data and statistics helps government staff and the general public to make better informed decisions.

With so much data being used, developed and analyzed by various Government of Alberta departments, it is important to follow best practices for statistics development, management and reporting.

Central government service

OSI is part of Employment and Immigration and functions with a government-wide mandate.

Internal cooperation and collaboration

For the initial phase of development, the OSI's focus will be internal to government.  The OSI is building upon the collective experience and skills of individual ministries to provide access to a range of statistical products to meet the needs of the Alberta government as a whole, both today and in the future.  These products use both external data (e.g. Statistics Canada) and data collected internally.

datalink - internal data access portal

One of the key priorities of the OSI is to fully implement "datalink" within the Government of Alberta.  This information gateway will eventually be used to securely share statistical information about Alberta with the public.
